Music, music and more music, astronomy, great literature and beautiful women! I collect Asian art and enjoy Middle Eastern / Mediterranean cuisine. I love long hikes in the forests and mountains. I always enjoy exchanges with people from different cultures, of any age. We will all be richer for the experience. Me gusta corresponder en español o portugese. Como este aprendo mejor como decir y escribir estas lenguas. My primary musical interests lie with jazz and blues; but I also enjoy down and dirty rock and roll jamming when the mood strikes! I play electric and acoustic guitar, blues harp (harmonica) and hand drums. I would love to learn a little bluegrass from one of those Nashville cats - :)

Favorite Music
Django Reinhardt, Stephane Grapelli, Ella Fitzgerald, Bessie Smith, John Coltrane, Billy Holiday, Etta James, Fats Waller and many other Jazz musicians / bands of that era too numerous to mention. I also need a good hit of 30's / 40s Big Band from time to time!
In the blues category my taste is varied. Among my many favourites are Ry Cooder, Muddy Waters, Clarence Gatemouth Brown, John Lee Hooker, Albert King, T-Bone Walker, *some* Johnny Winter, Mississippi Fred Mc Dowell' Leadbelly, Howlin' Wolf and Delta blues in general.
From Classic Rock, my all time favourites include Bob Dylan, Jeff Beck, Pink Floyd, The Doors, Hendrix, SRV, Yardbirds, The Kinks, The Who, Big Brother & The Holding Company, Janis Joplin, The Beatles, The Stones, early Country Joe and the Fish, Yes and U2!.
Modern Jazz / Soul singers I admire include Diana Krall, Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin, Norah Jones.... and Joan Armatrading, who seems to be in a category of her own, as is Leonard Cohen!

Journal

I've uploaded a video of the Jimi Hendrix Experience playing a version of Voodoo Chile (slight return) on the Lulu Show. I say version, because Hendrix never played the same song the same way twice. This is some pretty fine and rare footage, albeit slightly truncated. I wanted to share it with you. Comments are always welcomed!

Like many great artists, Hendrix developed his own personal, yet universal myth, reminiscent of William Blake and Allen Ginsberg (In *Howl*). In fact, the phrase: "my arrows are made of desire" in Voodoo Chile is taken directly from the visionary Blake.
The words: "If I don't see you no more in this world, I'll meet you in the next one and don't be late" seem eerily self prophetic!
Hendrix has been a huge influence in my own musical journey. I hope you enjoy the video. Voodoo Chile and *slight return* are closely related. The lyrics for both are posted below!
Ciao, James

VOODOO CHILE (SLIGHT RETURN)
Well, I stand up next to a mountain And I chop it down with the edge of my hand. Well, I stand up next to a mountain, Chop it down with the edge of my hand. Well, I pick up all the pieces and make an island, Might even raise just a little sand. cause Im a voodoo chile, Lord knows Im a voodoo chile, baby.
I didnt mean to take up all your sweet time, Ill give it right back to you one of these days. I said I didnt mean to take up all your sweet time, Ill give it right back one of these days. And if I dont meet you no more in this world Then ill, Ill meet you in the next one and dont be late, dont be late. cause Im a voodoo chile, voodoo chile, Lord knows Im a voodoo chile, hey hey hey. Im a voodoo chile, baby.
