MEAT CAUSES IMPOTENCE, HEART DISEASES, CANCER, STROKES, OBESITY, OSTEOPOROSIS, DIABETES, ETC - WWW.GOVEG.COMIt is often said, as an excuse for the slaughter of animals, that it is better for them to live and to be butchered than not to live at all. Now, obviously, if such reasoning justifies the practice of flesh-eating, it must equally justify all breeding of animals for profit or pastime, when their life is a fairly happy one. (...) Also, the argument must apply to mankind. It has, in fact, been the plea of the slave-breeder; and it is logically just as good an excuse for slave-holding as for flesh-eating. It would justify parents in almost any treatment of their children, who owe them, for the great boon of life, a debt of gratitude which no subsequent services can repay. We could hardly deny the same merit to cannibals, if they were to breed their human victims for the table, as the early Peruvians are said to have done. - Henry Salt Cause: Animals raised for food have to eat as many as 16 pounds of grain to create just 1 pound of edible flesh (a.k.a. "meat"). It takes about 300 gallons of water per day to produce food for a vegan, and more than 4,000 gallons of water per day to produce food for a meat-eater. Effect: 18,000 children die every day because of hunger and malnutrition, and 850 million people go to bed every night with empty stomachs, the head of the United Nations food agency said yesterday. But thousands of animals are uselessly butchered every day without a shadow of remorse. If any man were to refer to it, he would be thought ridiculous. And that is the unpardonable crime. That alone is the justification of all that men may suffer. It cries vengeance upon God. If there exists a good God, then even the most humble of living things must be saved. If God is good only to the strong, if there is no justice for the weak and lowly, for the poor creatures who are offered up as a sacrifice to humanity, then there is no such thing as goodness, no such thing as justice - Romain Rolland ............................................................................................................................... Next to the ridicule of denying an evident truth, is that of taking much pains to defend it; and no truth appears to me more evident, than that beasts are endow'd with thought and reason as well as men. The arguments are in this case so obvious, that they never escape the most stupid and ignorant - David Hume ..................................................................................................................... My object in this chapter is to show that there is no fundamental difference between man and the higher mammals in their mental faculties. . . The lower animals, like man, manifestly feel pleasure and pain, happiness and misery. Happiness is never better exhibited than by young animals, such as puppies, kittens, lambs, etc - Charles Darwin ..................................................................................................................... After reading Lappe, I wondered how I could claim to care about the environment, how I could claim to care about global poverty, if I kept eating meat, dairy products, and eggs. (...)Its amazing how many seemingly intelligent people, to justify their meat-eating, open their mouths, point at their teeth, and say something about canines as a means of defending a habit that is ecologically devastating, cruel to animals, and likely to kill them. Leaving aside how different human canines are from the canine teeth of carnivores (I really wonder if these people have ever even looked at the long, dagger-like canines of a dog or tiger), every natural carnivore has an array of other physiological properties that do not mirror ours. (...) But lets also think about natural behaviors. How many of us salivate at the idea of chasing a small animal, ripping her limb from limb, and then devouring her, blood and all? I hope that no one listening has that reaction, but every carnivore does. How many of us, if were walking down the street and see an animal carcass on the road, think, Mmmmmm ... Id like to eat that!? (...)Dr. Campbells studies have shown tha the vast majority of all cancers, cardiovascular diseases, and other forms of degenerative illness can be prevented simply by adopting a plant-based diet(...) Again, prejudice is prejudice, whether it is based on race or gender or religion or on species. In each case, a line is drawn, separating those in the group above the line from those in the group below the line. Nobel laureate Isaac Bashevis Singer, who fled Nazi-occupied Poland, called species bias the purest form of racism and animal rights the purest form of justice advocacy, because animals are the most vulnerable of all the downtrodden. He felt that mistreating animals is the epitome of the might makes right moral paradigm a moral paradigm that is ethically bankrupt. (http://www.goveg.com/veganism.asp) - Bruce Friedrich ........................................................................................... Yet across the gulf of space, minds that are to our minds as ours are to those of the beasts that perish, intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic, regarded this earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely drew their plans against us. (...) Yet so vain is man, and so blinded by his vanity, that no writer, up to the very end of the nineteenth century, expressed any idea that intelligent life might have developed there far, or indeed at all, beyond its earthly level.(...)And we men, the creatures who inhabit this earth, must be to them at least as alien and lowly as are the monkeys and lemurs to us.(...)Their world is far gone in its cooling and this world is still crowded with life, but crowded only with what they regard as inferior animals.(...) And before we judge of them too harshly we must remember what ruthless and utter destruction our own species has wrought, not only upon animals, such as the vanished bison and the dodo, but upon its inferior races. The Tasmanians, in spite of their human likeness, were entirely swept out of existence in a war of extermination waged by European immigrants, in the space of fifty years. Are we such apostles of mercy as to complain if the Martians warred in the same spirit? - The War of the Worlds, Chapter One , H. G. I do agree that continued global population growth will eventually bring disaster.
- Peter Singer

The decent moderation of today will be the least of human things tomorrow. At the time of the Spanish Inquisition, the opinion of good sense and of the good medium was certainly that people ought not to burn too large a number of heretics; extreme and unreasonable opinion obviously demanded that they should burn none at all.
- Maurice Maeterlinck

Thousands of people who say they 'love' animals sit down once or twice a day to enjoy the flesh of creatures who have been utterly deprived of everything that could make their lives worth living and who endured the awful suffering and the terror of the abattoirs.
- JANE GOODALL

A pitiful fellow! Such a ridiculous kind of pity his, as those silly souls have, who would not kill an innocent chicken for the world; but when killed to their hands, are always the most greedy devourers of it.
- SAMUEL RICHARDSON

Strange contrariety of conduct! They pity, and they eat the objects of their compassion!
- OLIVER GOLDMITH

Some People are not to be perswaded to taste of any Creatures they have daily seen and been acquainted with, whilst they were alive; others extend their scruple no further than to their own Poultry, and refuse to eat what they fed and took care of themselves, yet all of them will feed heartily and without Remorse on Beef, Mutton and Fowls, when they are bought in the Market.
- BERNARD MANDEVILLE

People often say that humans have always eaten animals, as if this is a justification for continuing the practice. According to this logic, we should not try to prevent people from murdering other people, since this has also been done since the earliest of times.
In their behavior toward creatures, all men were Nazis. The smugness with which man could do with other species as he pleased exemplified the most extreme racist theories, the principle that might is right.
I can never accept inconsistency or injustice. Even if it comes from God. If there would come a voice from God saying, "I'm against vegetarianism!" I would say, "Well, I am for it!" This is how strongly I feel in this regard.
- ISAAC BASHEVIS SINGER

The French have already discovered that the blackness of the skin is no reason why a human being should be abandoned without redress to the caprice of a tormentor. It may come one day to be recognized, that the number of the legs, the villosity of the skin, or the termination of the os sacrum, are reasons equally insufficient for abandoning a sensitive being to the same fate. What else is it that should trace the insuperable line? Is it the faculty of reason, or, perhaps, the faculty of discourse? But a full-grown horse or dog is beyond comparison a more rational, as well as a more conversable animal, than an infant of a day, or a week, or even a month, old. But suppose the case were otherwise, what would it avail? the question is not, Can they reason? nor, Can they talk? but, Can they suffer?
- JEREMY BENTHAM

With respect to animal diet, let it be considered, that taking away the lives of animals, in order to convert them into food, does great violence to the principles of benevolence and compassion.
- DAVID HARTLEY

We manage to swallow flesh, only because we do not think of the cruel and sinful thing we do.
- RABINADRANATH TAGORE

Nothing can be more shocking and horrid than one of our kitchens sprinkled with blood, and abounding with the cries of expiring victims or with the limbs of dead animals scattered or hung up here and there.
- ALEXANDRE POPE

It is certainly preferable to raise vegetables, and I think, therefore, that vegetarianism is a commendable departure from the established barbarious habit. That we can subsist on plant food and perform our work even to advantage is not a theory, but a well-demonstrated fact. Many races living almost exclusively on vegetables are of superior physique and strength. There is no doubt that some plant food, such as oatmeal, is more economical than meat, and superior to it in regard to both mechanical and mental performance. [...] In view of these facts every effort should be made to stop the wanton and cruel slaughter of animals, which must be destructive to our morals.
- NIKOLA TESLA

O impudence of power and might,/ Thus to condemn a hawk or kite,/When thou, perhaps, carniv'rous sinner,/Hadst pullets yesterday for dinner!
- JOHN GAY

Simply let those, like him of Samos, live! / Let herbs to them a bloodless banquet give. / In beechen goblets let their beverage shine, / Cool from the crystal spring their sober wine! / Their youth should pass in innocence secure / From stain licentious, and in manners pure.
- JOHN MILTON

The table was well spread with all manner of fruit, beans, greenstuff and good pies...but of flesh and fish there was never a sign.
- SHMUEL YOSEF AGNON

It is not my purpose here to discuss the question of vegetarianism, or to meet the objections that may be urged against it; though it must be admitted that of these objections not one can withstand a loyal and scrupulous inquiry.
- MAURICE MAETERLINCK

Grant animals a ray of reason, imagine what a frightful nightmare the world is to them: a dream of cold-blooded men, blind and deaf, cutting their throats, slitting them open, gutting them, cutting them into pieces, cooking them alive, sometimes laughing at them and their contortions as they writhe in agony. Is there anything more atrocious among the cannibals of Africa? To a man whose mind is free there is something even more intolerable in the sufferings of animals than in the sufferings of men. For with the latter it is at least admitted that suffering is evil and that the man who causes it is a criminal. But thousands of animals are uselessly butchered every day without a shadow of remorse. If any man were to refer to it, he would be thought ridiculous.—And that is the unpardonable crime.
- ROMAIN ROLLAND

Opposers of compassion urge: 'If we should live on vegetable food, what shall we do with our cattle? What would become of them? They would grow so numerous they would be prejudicial to us - they would eat us up if we did not kill and eat them!' But there is abundance of animals in the world whom men do not kill and eat; and yet we hear not of their injuring mankind, and sufficient room is found for their abode. Horses are not usually killed to be eaten, and yet we have not heard of any country overstocked with them. [...] Because some [animals] have no compassion, feeling, or reason, are we to possess no compassion, feeling, or reason?"
- GEORGE NICHOLSON

To see the convulsions, agonies and tortures of a poor fellow-creature, whom they cannot restore nor recompense, dying to gratify luxury and tickle callous and rank organs, must require a rocky heart, and a great degree of cruelty and ferocity. I cannot find any great difference between feeding on human flesh and feeding on [other] animal flesh, except custom and practice.
- GEORGE CHEYNE

In all the round world of Utopia there is no meat. There used to be. But now we cannot stand the thought of slaughter-houses. And, in a population that is all educated, and at about the same level of physical refinement, it is practically impossible to find anyone who will hew a dead ox or pig. We never settled the hygienic question of meat-eating at all. This other aspect decided us. I can still remember, as a boy, the rejoicings over the closing of the last slaughter-house.
- H. G. WELLS

The peoples living upon vegetable foods, are, of all men, the handsomest, the most vigorous, the least exposed to diseases and to passions, and they whose lives last longest
– BERNARDIN DE SAINT-PIERRE

This species of food [fruits and farinacea] is that which is most suited to man...
– CARL LINNAEUS

There is no doubt, that man is not built to be a carnivorous animal. What a sweet, pleasing and innocent sight is the spectacle of a table served that way and what a difference to a make up of fuming animal meat, slaughtered and dead! Man in no way has the constitution of a carnivorous being. Hunt and voracity are unnatural to him. Man has neither the sharp pointed teeth or claws to slaughter his prey. On the contrary his hands are made to pick fruits, berries and vegetables and teeth appropriate to chew them
- JOHN RAY

I do not like eating meat because I have seen lambs and pigs killed. I saw and felt their pain. They felt the approaching death. I could not bear it. I cried like a child. I ran up a hill and could not breathe. I felt that I was choking. I felt the death of the lamb.
- VASLAV NIJINSKY

- PETER SINGER

If anyone wants to save the planet, all they have to do is just stop eating meat. Thats the single most important thing you could do. Its staggering when you think about it. Vegetarianism takes care of so many things in one shot: ecology, famine, cruelty.
- SIR PAUL McCARTNEY

To kill animals for the purpose of feeding on their flesh is one of the most deplorable and shameful infirmities of the human state.
- ALPHONSE DE LAMARTINE

I am not interested to know whether vivisection produces results that are profitable to the human race or doesnt...The pain which it inflicts upon unconsenting animals is the basis of my enmity toward it, and it is to me sufficient justification of the enmity without looking further.

- JULES MICHELET

Barbarians seize this dog, which in friendship surpasses man so Prodigiously; they nail it on a table, and they dissect it alive in order to show the mesenteric veins. You discover in it all the same organs of feeling that are in yourself. Answer me, machinist, has nature arranged all the means of feeling in this animal, so that it may not feel? has it nerves in order to be impassible? Do not suppose this impertinent contradiction in nature.

MILK - THE DEADLY POISON : Apr 3, 2006
MILK SUCKS FOR YOUR HEALTH, FOR THE ENVIRONMENT AND FOR ANIMALS!

MILK CAUSES:
- BREAST AND PROSTATE CANCER;
- HEART ATTACKS;
- ACNE;
- FAT;
- GASES;
- ALLERGIES;
- OSTEOPOROSIS,ETC...
- MILK CONTAINS UNSAFE LEVELS OF PUS AND BLOOD!

Find out the truth!www.milksucks.co.uk, www.milksucks.com, notmilk.com, www.pcrm.org...

Cows - like all mammals - make milk to feed their own babies - not humans

"I no longer recommend dairy products.. The essential fats that are needed for brain development are found in vegetable oils. Milk is very low in these essential fats and high in the saturated fats that encourage artery blockage and weight problems as children grow."
Dr. Benjamin Spock

"Milk is simply no good for humans."
Dr. Ellis

"Humans are the only creatures that drink milk from the mother of another species. It's as unnatural for a child to drink the milk of a cow as it is for a dog to nurse from a giraffe! Human children have no nutritional requirements for cow's milk and grow up healthy and strong without it. Cow's milk and the products made from it are laced with foreign, frequently allergy-inciting bovine protein and often contain hydrocarbon pesticides and other chemical contaminants, as well as health-endangering saturated fat. Clinical experience suggests that cow's milk is linked to numerous common health problems (runny noses, allergies, ear infections, recurrent bronchitis, asthma, etc.) that often keep people returning to their doctors' offices instead of to their jobs or classrooms. Parents should feel good about giving their children the many nutritious, tasty alternatives to dairy products instead."
Michael Klaper, M.D., nutritional expert

"The association between the intake of animal protein and fracture rates appears to be as strong as the association between cigarette smoking and lung cancer."
"The dairy folks, ever since the 1920s, have been enormously successful in cultivating an environment within virtually all segments of our society - from research and education to public relations and politics - to have us believing that cow's milk and its products are manna from heaven. Make no mistake about it; the dairy industry has been virtually in total control of any and all public health information that ever rises to the level of public scrutiny."
Dr. T. Colin Campbell, the world's leading epidemiological researcher in the field of diet and health

"The fact is: The drinking of cow milk has been linked to iron-deficiency anemia in infants and children; it has been named as the cause of cramps and diarrhea in much of the worlds population, and the cause of multiple forms of allergy as well."
"There's no reason to drink cow's milk at any time in your life. It was designed for calves, not humans, and we should all stop drinking it today."
Frank Oski, M.D., the former director of the Department of Pediatrics of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and physician-in-chief of the Johns Hopkins Childrens Center

"Milk, it now seems clear, is not the solution to poor bone density. To the contrary, it's part of the problem."
Dr. Charles Attwood

"The myth that osteoporosis is caused by calcium deficiency was created to sell dairy products and calcium supplements. There's no truth to it. American women are among the biggest consumers of calcium in the world, and they still have one of the highest levels of osteoporosis in the world. And eating even more dairy products and calcium supplements is not going to change that fact."
Dr. John McDougall, The McDougall Program for Women (2000)

"It is hard to turn on the tv without hearing commercials suggesting that milk promotes strong bones. The commercials do not point out that only 30 percent of milk's calcium is absorbed by the body or that osteoporosis is common among milk drinkers. Nor do they help you correct the real causes of bone loss."
Milk, in particular, is poor insurance against bone breaks ... the healthiest calcium sources are green leafy vegetables and legumes. ... You don't need to eat huge servings of vegetables or beans to get enough calcium, but do include both in your regular menu planning."
Dr. Neal Barnard, President of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine

"Dairy is a tremendous mucus producer and a burden on the respiratory, digestive, and immune systems. patients who eliminate dairy products for an extended period and eat a balanced diet ý suffer less from colds and sinus infections."
Dr. Christiane Northrup

"there have been few carefully designed studies of the effects of dairy foods on bone health"
American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (2000)

"There are so many articles coming up. You cant ignore the issue any more. If a child has food sensitivities to milk, the symptoms can include eczema, bloating, runny nose, chronic ear infections, stomach problems. It could be asthma. Even things like kidney and bladder problems."
Sharon Tateishi, Calgary, Alberta, nutritionist for more than 20 years

"There are no logical arguments for the continued use of animal source food in the human diet."
William Harris, M.D.

"Some people find that consuming large quantities of dairy products may worsen their acne."
Dr. Laura E. Skellchock, Clinical Associate Professor of Dermatology at the University of California, San Francisco

"As pointed out by Dr. Jerome Fisher, 'About 80 percent of cows that are giving milk are pregnant and are throwing off hormones continuously.' Progesterone breaks down into androgens, which have been implicated as a factor in the development of acne...Dr. Fisher observed that his teenage acne patients improved as soon as the milk drinking stopped."
Don't Drink Your Milk, by Frank Oski, M.D

"The recommendation to drink three glasses of low-fat milk or eat three servings of other dairy products per day to prevent osteoporosis is another step in the wrong direction. Three glasses of low-fat milk add more than 300 calories a day. This is a real issue for the millions of Americans who are trying to control their weight. What's more, millions of Americans are lactose intolerant, and even small amounts of milk or dairy products give them stomachaches, gas, or other problems. This recommendation ignores the lack of evidence for a link between consumption of dairy products and prevention of osteoporosis. It also ignores the possible increases in risk of ovarian cancer and prostate cancer associated with dairy products."
Harvard School of Public Health, on the Consumption of Dairy Products (2005)

"Much evidence suggests that high consumption of full-fat dairy products is likely to increase coronary heart disease risk"
American Journal of Clinical Nutrition

"Dairy products may play a major role in the development of ALLERGIES, asthma, sleep difficulties, and migraine headaches."
Israel Journal of Medical Sciences 1983;19(9):806-809 Pediatrics 1989;84(4):595-603

"In reality, cow's milk, has been linked to a variety of health problems, including: mucous production, hemoglobin loss, childhood diabetes, heart disease, atherosclerosis, arthritis, kidney stones, mood swings, depression, irritability, ALLERGIES."
Townsend Medical Letter, May, 1995, Julie Klotter, MD

"Cow's milk is an inefficient food source. Cows, like humans, expend the majority of energy from their food intake simply leading their lives. It takes a great deal of grain and other foodstuffs cycled through cows to produce a small amount of milk. And not only is milk a waste of energy and water, the production of milk is also a disastrous source of water pollution. A dairy cow produces 55 kg of waste every day -- equal to that of two dozen people, but with no toilets, sewers or treatment plants."
www.milksucks.co.uk

"Dairy farmers dont tell consumers that every glass of milk is contaminated with pus, bacteria, and perhaps with paratuberculosis. The only way to avoid drinking pus is to avoid cows milk."
www.milksucks.com

"That the dairy industry has succeeded in selling people on this nonsense- that cows milk is good for them -is truly remarkable and a tribute to the power of pouring money into advertising. But no one tries to defend milk-drinking as natural, because what could be less natural than one species decision to consume the mammary secretions of another species Its not as if nature made a mistake -dog mothers milk for puppies; kangaroo mothers milk for kangaroos; rat mothers milk for baby rats; cow mothers milk for calves - oh, hey, wait a minute! Lets use cow mammary secretions for human beings also, including grown-up ones who shouldnt be drinking any mothers milk at their age anyway. Of course not.
One dairy cow produces more than 100 pounds of excrement per day. The animals raised in the U.S. produce 130 times the excrement of the entire human population of this country."
Bruce Friedrich

"Vegan diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including during pregnancy and lactation."
Am J Clin Nutr.

"I had long realized that milk was not necessary for supporting the body. While the necessity for avoiding milk in the interests of self-restraint was growing upon me, I happened to come cross some literature from Calcutta, describing the tortures to which cows and buffaloes were subjected by their keepers. This had a wonderful effect on me."
Mahatma Gandhi

"Animals from which milk is obtained are not always healthy. A cow may be apparently well in the morning, and die before night. Then she was diseased in the morning, and her milk was diseased, but you did not know it."
Ellen G. White

"A mind of the calibre of mine cannot derive its nutriment from cows."
George Bernard Shaw

"Milk is for babies,"
Arnold Schwarzenegger, 1977

"You shouldnt be drinking milk!...Milk takes little calves and makes them into big fat cows."
Howard Stern

Estou a tentar denunciar injustiças. Não quero agradar as massas. A verdade é desagradável.

O homem sempre teve escravos logo é correcto continuar a praticar a escravatura, diziam.
