About Me
Shalee, In Loving Memory ABOUT THE SOUL REBELLION
A concept more than a concert,I live as an annual music festival that reinvests Jamaica back into the Spring Break Experience. I was born 2 years ago, and despite various hardships I am now entering my 3rd year and am doing fabulous. In the entire history of Spring Break, and tourism to Negril, there has never been an event like me. I am the first event to be implemented that was built on a sustainable business model. I generate resources and then pump them into the local community. I was created after an event production company called Kraft-E woke up and grew aware of how things were, and decided to change it.
In my first year, I presented Sasha and TOK live in concert at the Jungle Nightclub. During the day, local school children from the surrounding area came and shared poems, songs, stories, spoken word, and culture with the visiting students from the USA. Not very many people realize just how much influence Jamaica has had abroad. Without Jamaica and her culture, the shape and look and feel of the US street culture would be significantly different.
I also invited local cooks such as Miss Sonia to come down and share some of the rich cuisine of Jamaica. She brought some of her infamous patties and there were other foods at hand like roast breadfruit. High Priest from Judgement Yard came and spoke about Rastafarian culture, and I am most proud of developing something called the "Buy-A-Brick" program.
For 100J you can purchase a block, paint the block with your name or school or slogan, and then we use the block in local school construction. In my first year I helped build new bathroom facilities at St. Paul's Primary School in Little London. These efforts are focused through a partnership with local businesses and organizations such as The Jungle, Travellers Beach Resort and the Negril Education Environment Trust, and Kirwall Block Factory. I know that very soon we will be building entire schools.
Last year, we assisted the Ferris School in Sav with their Tuck Shop.
I am NOT a charity, I am INVESTED in a progressive future in which everyone can share the benefits.
In 2007 we grew into an annual concert series that is unlike most other event productions. I am a showcase event, I allow the artist performing on my stage to really present themselves in concert. The artist gets a chance to develop their set and connect with their fans.
The artists who supported my efforts last year were: TOK, Dugal, Five Star, Ras Noble, Ras Slick, High Priest, Master Key, SIZZLA, BOUNTY KILLER, and BEENIE MAN. Also I would like to mention all the DJs who helped me to grow into what I am today- Rustikilla, DJ Absolute, Slim, and Gemini.
