Topic: New mod, what to get?
Hi everyone,
Im currently running a
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ (2200mhz)
DFI Lanparty nf4-D
2 X 512 Kingston PC3200 DDR
nVidia GeForce 7800GT 256 GDDR3 (pci-e)
ATA HD 250GB.

I think im gonna upgrade everything,
this is what im thinking.
Get one of them MSI - K9N-DIAMOND
Slide in a Athlon64 FX-62, 2.8 GHz
and 2x pci-e GeForce 7800GT, 512MB GDDR3 and get them to run SLI mode.
As for memmory im thinking aboudt getting
Corsair Twin2X 2x1024MB DDR2, PC6400 DDR800 (that should make it Vista ready :D)

My only concern is that Pentium has released a new monster on the scene:
Core 2 Extreme Model X6800 (2.933GHz), EM64T (Extended Memory Technology 64)
Im an AMD guy, but if this Conroe thing is as Xstreme as they say, I would consider changing to this processor.
Just think of the final overclock result,
But i would only do this if i knew what the power consumption was, seing as im gonna install peltier elements on CPU, Chipset and the graphic cards and the biggest peltier element ive seen is 80 watts wich does not cover the graphic cards.
And obviously im gonna add water cooling.
Ive got this idea that im gonna include my fridge in the mod to lower the temps :D

Any help, comments or ideas would be much apritiated

Yeah true,

conroe processors are much better in terms of permormance against any amd.
I have an amd too..

thre is no need to buy an extreme conroe, even a 6600, with 4Mb of cache, can & will destroy any FX chips.

Moreover these chips can be oced past 3.6GHZ just with AIR, no need to mention speeds with water either peltiers.

I would suggest if u are an amd lover, keep ur mobo & just change ur cpu to a dual core opteron, some of these chips can hit or even past 3G with water.

I was hoping for an answer like that seing as the X6800 is EXTREMELY Expensive.
And on another subject is it true Pentium is gonne release a quad-core anytime soon?
And is the operton a gaming CPU?

According to AMD roadmap quad-core chips will be launched late 07-early 2008, however nothing is official, by the way they will need a new socket, not am2 (this is the new one) but am3.

In general i am not keen of the new socket of amd (am2), so if u want something completely different i would recommend conroe.

AM2 socket has nothing more to show from 939 than ddr2 support.

For me, if u r budget limited, stay with dfi and find a nice stepping of opteron cpu. and yes opteron is a gaming cpu, intended for server usage, however has been to mainstream market as well. From this chip, amd increased its market share against intel, lovely chip!!

Do not forget man, nowadays we have plenty of cpu headroom, games are bottlenecked from vgas rather than cpus.

Change ur cpu to a dual core, upgrade ur vga(i believe 7800GT is more than enough for now), which of cource is an invest since u can put it anywhere/anytime, buy a twin of nice 10k rpm Raptors and when amd will re4spond to conroe u will have the choice.

Just wait for some days, amd prices will fall.

Quads may not be in AM2 but I wouldn't put it past them to use Socket F instead of coming out with a whole new architecture.
