I got to vent because I have a gripe so bear with me while I waffle!!
If I see one more article comparing Angelina F*&%ing Jolie to Josephine Baker, I will SCREAM!!! Why the comparison? Well Josephine Baker became famous for adopting children from around the world. That is where the similarity between her and Angelina should end.....but NOOOO! There is NO comparison! Angelina is the child of 2 actors....they were NOT poor so she grew up wanting for nothing. Josephine Baker on the other hand was born in 1906 and is noted for being the first female African American to star in a major motion picture, to integrate an American concert hall, and to become a world famous entertainer. She is also noted for her contributions to the Civil Rights Movement in the United States, and for being an inspiration to generations of African-American female entertainers and others. She adopted 12 orphaned children, partly because she couldn't have any of her own (Baker bore only one child herself, stillborn in 1941, an incident that resulted in an emergency hysterectomy)and partly because she believed in equality for all, no matter what nationality, religion or race they were of. They were called "the Rainbow Children" and their names were: Aiko (Korea), Luis (Colombia), Janot (Japan), Jari (Finland), Jean-Claude (Canada), Moses (France), Marianne (France), Noel (France), Brahim (Saudi Arabia), Mara (Venezuela), Koffi (Ivory-Coast), Stellina (Morocco). Think about it....has Angelina EVER had to struggle the way Josephine did? Hell to the NO! In 1951 the Stork Club in New York City refused to serve Josephine because she was black. Has Angelina ever had to deal with that? Josephine's 1935-36 US performances received poor reviews, with the New York Times going so far as to call her a "Negro wench." Again....how does this compare to Jolie? In 1963, she spoke at the March on Washington at the side of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Wearing her Free French uniform with her Legion of Honor decoration, she was the only woman to speak at the rally. After King's assassination his widow, Coretta Scott King, approached Baker in Holland to ask if she would take her husband's place as leader of the American Civil Rights Movement. After many days of thinking it over, Baker declined, stating that her children were " ... too young to lose their mother." Angelina....Is a UN ambassador? I could carry on but I would be here all day!!! My point is BBB: everything that Angelina is doing has been done before! She is not the first hollywood star to adopt from other nations. Stephen Speilberg and his wife adopted 2 black boys, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman adopted a black son, Mia Farrow adopted children from the far east, Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) also has adopted children from the far east, so "Saint" Angelina is not special, or unique and she most certainly IS NO Josephine Baker! true indeed Buki.
I dont get it either...I mean true she is adopting some children and have concerns of others, but......many people around the world do that every day. I mean I dont adopt them but we do provide for hundreds...but thats nothing because I am not Angelina with babies of various cultures. I am happy those children have a chance at a better life and I do hope she and Brad keep things positive for the children no matter what. Posted by Her royal Solness Fire

Ok sis, I hear you, and i feel your frustration.
I do hope though, that your disgust is targeted at the media, and not at Ms. Jolie. After all, I don't ever recall her taking any credit, or giving herself any praise. I don't imagine it was her that asked the media -or anyone- to go ahead and make -probably unfair- comparisons between herself and anyone that came before her. Besides, we all know the media is rubbish. Sure you could make the argument that given the differences in their circumstances, Ms. Baker's doing was one that required significantly more effort than Ms. Jolie's does. Still,... does it matter? It's not a competition, and it surely shouldn't be a comparison of supposed greatness. Giving a home to an orphan is a beautiful thing, and anyone who does it out of love, be they rich or poor, black or white, should be respected and, dare I say, lauded. The media could compare her to mother Theresa for all I care. I can't be mad at her, so long as she remains selfless in her desire to make this god-forsaken planet a better place. I will despise the media for being so narrow in its sight; for only shedding light on Jolie's efforts just because she's a "celebrity"; for praising her and ignoring others... much like the little to no media coverage that was given to the fact that Brat Pitt used millions of his own money to build houses for many Katrina flood victims (something the government has yet to do). I could despise the media for making comparisons that are probably in bad taste, and for making my sister have a gripe, but that's the media for you,... watchya gonna do? At least, the media coverage seemingly directed at Jolie alone, is coverage... coverage that still sheds light on the plight of so many; coverage that sheds light on the fact that there are still decent people left who will help; coverage that might, in its own way, inspire many others to be decent, unselfish human beings.
