Topic: Asian American Theatre Co. premieres Cowboy vs. Samurai in SF
Cowboy vs. Samurai continues season for Asian American Theater Company
July 5 -- 22

Think of it as Cyrano de Bergerac with an Asian flare. San Francisco’s acclaimed Asian American Theater Company (www.asianamericantheater.org) presents Michael Golamco’s no-holds-barred romantic comedy, Cowboy vs. Samurai under the direction of Keiko Shimosato, of San Francisco Mime Troupe fame. The production will mark the debut of Asian American Theater as the Guest Company Artist-in-Residence at the Thick House (1695 18th Street) on San Francisco’s Potrero Hill.

The lives of the only two Asian Americans in the tiny western hamlet of Breakneck, Wyoming are turned upside down when the beautiful Veronica Lee (Melissa Navarro), a Korean American teacher from New York City moves to town. New in town, Lee meets the town’s only other Asian-American. Also vying for her attentions is Del , most definitely not Asian and Chester, who is, but which kind? Through irony, humor, and social commentary, Cowboy vs. Samurai cleverly exposes the struggle of Asian Americans to find their place in the vast American landscape...and with each other.

Cowboy vs. Samurai runs July 5 – 22 (Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturday at 8pm; Sundays 2pm) at San Francisco’s Thick House (1695 18th Street at Connecticut on Potrero Hill).
